Gender-Based Violence victims need platforms that amplify their voices – Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika

Prof. Ogwezzy-Ndisika, a gender and development expert, commented while speaking at the inaugural online Town hall meeting, “thruMYeyes Townhall”, organised by Syncterface Media, a UK-based media company.

She said Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is an issue of increasing importance and that the COVID-19 pandemic had exacerbated incidents. She said, “we need global platforms that draw the attention of duty briers to the plight of right holders.”

The Town Hall initiative (which broadcasts across major social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook & Instagram) aims to set the agenda for addressing social issues across cultures, raise awareness and build public confidence to find solutions to problems while mobilising like-minded people across sub-Saharan Africa.

Prof Ogwezzy-Ndisika also said the platform would present an opportunity to amplify the voice of the voiceless, allow survivors to share their stories and point victims to valuable support systems that will facilitate access to justice.
